Caring for 50 horses keeps a body busy!

Newsletter 2009

The last 4 months of 2008 are a blur. On September 9th we saved 25 very sick, unhandled, scared, very malnourished & wormy weanlings, & yearlings, & one close to dead 6 week old Cremello filly. One month later we saved 2 more babies- Sam, who went on to his new home, & Ben, cute little black pony colt, with his crooked little legs, & fearful attitude. The next week Vegas & Sally came to safety at the rescue, Vegas with an injury to her shoulder that had the vet here more in that month, than all of 2007! We placed 6 Registered Pregnant mares, & brought in Bentley, formerly known as "skinny old guy", & Duncan, a very cute, 2 month old Percheron colt. Then came LuLu, Danny, & Romeo. Next was Cheyenne & Cassie, all with the same story, mothers had shipped, babies have no value, so will die.
We were full before all this activity, but have since placed Emmy, Sadie, (who has a home in Idaho), Rosie, Cruz & a few of the babies in their forever homes.
Although trying to keep up with this many horses is quite a task, it is also very rewarding, & entertaining. Watching these babies learn, & grow, & knowing we kept them from "the long ride" is what is called for in this terrible time for the horses. One morning in October, we woke up to find Cruz had "argued" with a porcupine, both back legs plastered with quills, what a sight that must have been- a flying porcupine, we never did find it, must have been one good kick.

Our beloved Misty suffered a stroke in November, & pulled through,( although it was touch & go ) then 3 days later had rectal prolapse. She is still with us- hopefully, for a long time to come, & looks & feels great, but we could do without all the worry, & hourly checks.

This news letter was started a year ago- jeez, am I really that far behind? Must be that caring for 50 horses keeps a body busy! 2009 has gone by like a shot, the horses here are all healthy, happy, & demanding- growing, & learning, us with them! It?s time to wish HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all, & may your lives be full of healthy/happy/obnoxious young 4-leggeds.

We may have other horses not ready for adoption.  To be placed on our waiting list click here.
